Help Name This Painting!

Pastel Painting by Lesley Harrison
HELP!! Some of you out there are so awesome at helping with titles and I think this one needs something really wonderful. Can you either think of titles or tell me what feelings this painting inspires in you and I can “make” a title from that?!

Thank you! Thank you! I’m headed for a show in Alberta, Canada. I’ll send photos of my road trip and the show and keep you updated. I’ll have 23 original paintings with me!!

I really love the light in this painting!!! :) It looks like its in the morning… I’d name it something like “Morning Reading” or “Fairy tale morning”!!!

  3. Mary Says:

    How about,
    Special Friends Reading Time,
    In a Land Far Away,
    Best Buds Book Club,
Undivided Attention, or, as everyone has probably thought…Once Upon a Time.

I love the sweet innocence of this painting. It really is beautiful! Thanks for sharing it with us, Lesley. I hope you sell every one of those paintings!

Good luck with the show I’m sure that you will ‘WoW’ them with your lovely art.
As for a name for this picture how about ‘ Summer School ‘ or
    Jackanory tell a story.

Hope you have a lovely time :)

  9. Kristine Ellman Says:

Oh my heavens, this painting is absolutely beautiful and so precious!!! The title that first popped up in my head when I first saw it was “Once Upon a Time”. The other title that I think of when I view this painting is “Storytime with Friends”. I just love all of the soft and pretty colors and the happy expressions on the stuffed animals. So well done and best wishes for a very successful show!!!

  10. Marianne Harris Says:

I can totally relate to this little girl. I used to have “story time” with all my little animals when I was her age. So that’s my suggestion… Story Time.

  11. Marianne Harris Says:

… and good luck at the show! Can’t wait to hear all about it.

  12. Kim Martin Says:

    “Once upon a time”

  13. Shalese Sands Says:

What another lovely piece! When I see this, I’m reminded of memories from childhood as well as the joy of the simple things in life.
So, for some titles, I thought of:
    1. The Little Things
    2. Childhood Memories
    3. Quiet Time
    4. Storytime

    Hope this helps!

I think you are all just WONDERFUL!!

    Thank you, thank you!

I’ll keep posting WIP’s and you can help me name the tough ones…….or all of them! You come up with much better ideas than I can. :-)

I love all of your ideas and have written them all down so they can be used later. But the one that just really reasonated with me (and my assitant) is “Once Upon A Time”…just seems to say it all.

    Thank you!!!!

The show is at the Calgary Stampede for 10 days, 12 hours a day (!) and I’m doing it with a girlfriend who lives there. She’s an amazing artist and we have been close friends for 19 years. Her name is Adeline Halvorson if you want to look up her artwork….you’ll be impressed. We’ve done 4 or 5 shows together in the states so now it’s my turn to head north.

    Will keep you posted!!

  15. Leslie #4 Says:

    And here is my input:
    1. And So The Story Goes……
    2. Quiet Gathering
    Hugs to you Lesley #1

  16. Marianne Harris Says:

Lesley… good luck in Calgary. Wish I was there! And I love Adeline Halvorson’s work. Like yours, her’s is simply amazing!

  17. Lesley Harrison Says:

Thanks Quatro!! Thrilled you wrote on the blog!

  18. Lesley Harrison Says:

    Marianne,

Thought you would like her work. Our work is very similar actually except she paints in acrylic.

She usually stays with me every year so one time we decided It might be fun for her to teach me how to paint in acrylic. I wanted to paint BIG canvases!

After a couple of hours of her working on her painting and me on mine she said to me: “I suspect that all the cussing I hear means you aren’t enjoying working with acrylics!”

So we went shopping and I back to my beloved pastels. :-)

  19. Marianne Harris Says:

That’s funny Lesley. I had the same type of experience with my friend and oils. We took a couple of classes together, and I missed those pastels throughout the entire class. Oils are really pretty, but I didn’t have the patience to wait for them to dry and kept muddying my work up.

  20. Kristine Ellman Says:

I absolutely love this painting and all of the soft and pretty colors. When I first looked at it, the title “Once Upon A Time” came to mind. The other two titles that I think of are “Storytime with Friends” and “Good Listeners”. I just love the happy expressions of the stuffed animals and the beautiful lighting in this painting. It’s just wonderful and another one of your paintings that I could never get tired of looking at!!!

  21. lesley harrison Says:

Oh Kristine, thank you! And I love your suggestions. I’ll add them to the list that I have going for a future painting….

  22. lesley harrison Says:

    Marianne,

I love to look at a fabulous oil painting too but there is just something about pastels….they make my soul sing!

I was in Cross Gate Gallery in Lexington, Kentucky a few years ago. I had wanted to see this gallery for years, all horse and sporting art. From a room away I zeroed in on a painting and with tunnel vision, headed straight for it, like being drawn by a magnet.

It was a pastel and phenomenal!

    Of course!!!

  23. Rita Ria Says:

    This one is so charming.
“Patient listeners” was I got in my mind first.
    Have fun in Canada!
And I bet, nothing can beat pastels :)

  24. joni beinborn Says:

The lighting is incredible and the softness this piece puts out…wow. How about “Happily Ever After”?

  25. Sharon Says:

So, I have to tell you a story about this little girl. As we were driving home from her gymnastic class Wednesday she says from the back seat … “Gramma, I want to be mean.”

I thought … huh?? “Jaiden, why do you want to be mean?”

She heaves a HUGE, very dramatic sigh and tells me, “Because gramma … being good all the time is just too hard.”

It was one of those “you’d better not laugh” moments for me and danged if she wasn’t watching my face in the rear view mirror to see my reaction! lol
