Fate Of This Blog
Hello:
As many of you may already know, Lesley has not been able to make posts to the Blog and probably will not be able to do so in the foreseeable future. I’ve been keeping the Blog going and perhaps someday, when Lesley is ready, she’ll be able to make some comments again. In the meantime, she trusts me to post things in her absence.
Some visitors don’t make comments unless Lesley does, but there are quite a lot of you who do take the time to provide support and encouragement to our many “Guest Artists”. And, I’m sure that our Guest Artists are very appreciative of that!
I would like to add a new feature to the Blog that will allow the Guest Artists - who don’t have their own blog or website - to showcase some of their work. If you are interested, please contact me at altiva@idcnet.com.
In the meantime, THANK YOU to all of the Guest Artists who have submitted their work for consideration and to those of you who take the time to provide feedback and encouragement. I know that it makes Lesley happy to know that you are helping and supporting your fellow artists.

Erin… thanks to you for keeping the blog going. I know that it has been a labor of love for you… and I’m sure Lesley appreciates your efforts. My thoughts are with Lesley and John.

Marianne:
You are so sweet and I think that it’s great that you submit your works in progress and finished paintings. I also think it’s wonderful how you take your time to make comments on the other artist’s works. I know that means a lot to Lesley.
I’m anxious to see how “Orlando” progresses and would love to see it “in-the-works”. Have fun in the upcoming workshop and be sure to let us know how it goes!

I hope the blog does manage to survive this and I’m sure it will.
I also hope that everything turns out good for Lesley and John and one day, no doubt, she’ll be back to post with us.
What about featuring wips of works by different contributors or something as well? Something visual that other artists can use to help them learn new techniques etc…
We could also share pics of our beloved non human companions….who often inspire us to produce art.
Just some ideas.

Hi Toni-Marie:
Your ideas sound GREAT! If anyone wants to send me WIPs, tips, and photos of their critters, that would be just fine.
I’ll do my part to keep the Blog going until Lesley can join us again, but it will be mostly up to you guys! So, feel free to start sending me your stuff!
THANKS!
Erin

Does digital art count, or only art made with physical media? I love both, but I’ve had to work exclusively with digital since my kids were born. I’d shudder to think what toddlers would do to a box of pastels.
Anyway, just curious. And kudos for keeping the blog running!
Kessie:
We’ve featured a few select photographs (which Lesley was fine with), so we could try your digital art. Email me some images at altiva@idcnet.com along with a bio and info about the images. Thanks for asking!

I know how much this blog and all the wonderful people here mean to Lesley. We talked about it a great deal at the Draft Horse Classic (when John first got sick) then again at the Friesian show in Reno.
Friends and family are what mean the world to Lesley and John. It’s where they get the strength they need for this battle we call life.
Erin, is there any way you can incorporate a link for the blog on the mail page again like it used to be? It was so much easier to find that way.
If there’s anything the rest of us can do to help make your labor of love easier, please let us know!
Much love to you, to all the lovely people who are part of this community, and to Lesley and John.
Sharon:
I can add the link back to the Home page of Lesley’s site. We’re making some changes to that page now, so I will do that! And, as far as things to contribute…I have always LOVED your stories!!

Allthough I’m not commenting a lot. I do watch this blog on a daily base. I really hope Lesley will be able to join us soon. But untill then, I try and comment a bit more.
Daisyree: You offer a lot of things for this Blog!! So a big THANKS goes to you!

Hi Erin,
first I also want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to you, to keep this blog running!
And I agree, that WIPs sound a great idea.
Another idea would be to upload some of the great photos you - or others may have and share. And when some want to try to paint this one - we could post them side by side? And when we notice, this part we like better, the artist can explain how he/she did this one…
Thanks for the feedback Rita. We can feature “Photos To Paint” from time to time. Actually, my husband and I are going to be creating a Gallery on his website to offer free reference photos to artists. But - just like on this blog - they will only be low resolution versions. We’d have to send folks the high resolution versions if they want to try and paint them.

First of all I wish to thank you Erin for your continuing support and for maintaining this blog, and my thoughts are always with Lesley and John.
I appreciate all the comments received about my art work and this site is always been inspirational to me, thank you again all for your encouragement.
I would love to share my earlier art work with you all (mainly pencil and colour pencil), and other more recent pastel painting on velour paper. I’m a little embarrassed to do so because I haven’t shared them with anyone apart from family and friends, but I’m in full support of this blog so I will.
I would also love to share techniques with fellow artists, how mistakes are overcome, etc.. I will send you all my stuff shortly (including my mistakes) for submission.
Best Regards to all, Ian.
Ian: Thank you for all that you’ve contributed to the Blog! I have always enjoyed seeing your work. Send me your pencil drawings. I do have some already, so let me know which ones you’d like featured.

There are clearly plenty of us that want to ‘keep the flag flying’ while Lesley is committed elsewhere. I love the idea of having those that want to paint the same picture and see how we all get on - a bit like an e-workshop where we all learn from each other…
Lisa:
Great idea! Perhaps we could feature some reference photos and then everyone can vote on which one(s) they want to paint. Then, I will take care of getting a high resolution version to those who want to participate. What does everyone think??
February 19th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
That sounds great! I already sent you a few pics and as I said I have plenty more to work from.

I’m in on the painting party. And I LOVE all your reference photos Erin (or should I say Steve.)
LOL!! I’m glad you clarified that there are Steve’s photos! I am the world’s worst when it comes to taking photos! A painting party sounds fun! I’ll try and get some reference photos together.

Erin
We all appreciate your efforts to keep this blog going, including me! I would be happy to send along a painting or 2. Toni-Marie and I belong to other forums where we submit WIPs and often get great helpful feedback from other artists.
I am working on a couple of things now and if I have time and good light I will take some photos to submit as WIPs. Its fun to watch paintings develop too.
An email coming your way.

My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Lesley… But I am so very thankful that you have kept this blog up and running, Erin! I know so many artists value this blog not only for inspiration, but also for the many kind and caring people who post here. I believe sites like this allow blooming artists to encourage one another without worrying about being ridiculed or harshly criticized. I know I feel that way.
As far as this new thing for the Guest Artists, I think that is a very good idea! I also like Toni-Marie’s idea as well. I haven’t been able to post recently because my computer crashed and I had to get a new one. But I just want to say that I am very excited and thrilled about the direction this blog is going. Thanks for all the hard work and dedication you put into it, Erin! And congratulations to Steve and his photo–it’s just so crystal clear and gorgeous!
