The Old Wolf Remembers

I have always been fascinated with this painting by Lesley. I could stare at it for HOURS and swear that it was a photograph! The details are incredible and the rocks look so real that you could reach in a pick them up! It amazes me how so many of Lesley’s paintings are so life-like and can convey so much emotion.

I couldn’t agree more with you, Erin.
She is just so fabulous with details. I recently had to paint rocks - and well, I was not as good as Lesley is - need to see a tutorial from her about that, too

Ah, I’ve always loved this one. The realism is fantastic! This is how I hope to be able to paint someday.

Oh. so beautiful! Lesley amazes me with her art…It looks like a photo…only much better! I would like to know how long it takes to make a painting like this one?? I always walk away from my paintings for a while and then go back with fresh eyes. It seems to help me see where it needs more work. This wolf painting is awesome!

This is another beautiful painting, absolutely fantastic, it’s so real, and I would love to see a step by step on this, just to see where to start!

I also love this one but do you know my absolute favourite is The Kindness in His Eye on page 21 of Lesley’s book. Oh I want to touch that horse! It’s such a perfect picture, I show it to everyone and there is never anything but amazement that it can poosibly be a painting. When I run out of steam I look at it again and think - that’s where I want to be. You are a constant inspiration Lesley!

Oooh, so cute…
Really, Lesley, you’re fantastic! It’s not just much better than a photograph, it’s much more than a simple photo.
I think an artist has to feel what she paints and if she wants to paint a sad or remembering picture, somewhere she must be sad and she wants to remember too. And it’s good, because an artist has to be able to express herself not through her words but her works, in my opinion. However it’s not a disadvantage if she can tell what she really feels deep inside but paintings show more than words sometimes.
Lesley, keep up your beautiful works and I wish you the best!
Kind regards,
Dori

Hi Lesley
I have just found your blog after googling ‘pastels on velour paper’ as I am just about to embark very nervously on my first piece. What a brilliant blog with so much information - thank you! I have spent a happy half hour reading and looking at your amazing pictures and will no doubt come back many times. This wolf is wonderful, you have captured such emotion.
Now I’m going to begin my picture, I only have pastel pencils but will give it a go and maybe buy some other pastels if I enjoy working on the velour.
