Guest Artist - Mary Marriner

Mary has been one of our frequent visitors for a long time. Now, she’s decided to share her beautiful artwork with us. All I can say is…”WOW”!! Here’s a little about Mary:
“I am a stay at home artist in Marietta Georgia, who has dabbled in art for many years. I actually studied at Parson’s School of Design to be a fashion illustrator. However, just as I was going through school, they switched to photography and I lost my chance to continue along that path. So, along came marriage, three beautiful daughters, and lots of years doing everything except art. I picked it up again about fifteen years ago when we had a horse in training and I decided to do a portrait of the trainer’s horse. That started the ball rolling and I have mostly filled my time with commissioned animal portraits and a few of people, as well.
Recently, I have created some very large horse paintings in acrylic, but I know that my first love in mediums is pastel. Creating art takes me to another place and I lose all track of time…It really feeds my soul.”
Tiger - This was one of my first attempts at using velour paper. I was very pleased with the results! I almost exclusively use velour these days. When I do any animals, the fur looks so believable. It just adds a softness that is hard to achieve with other papers.

I say the same…. WOW.
Those eyes, you are really good. I´m glad you found your way back to art, and I really agree with you, painting feeds my soul to.
I hope we get to see some more of your work.

You’re very lucky to have the velour paper. Here I just couldn’t find a shop where we, poor artists could get in touch with it… I agree with the others in WOW and the only thing I can tell is: keep up your beautiful works!
Kind regards,
Dori

As Helen said, I really like the eyes in this piece! They seem to have a depth and a life to them.

Thank you all for the encouraging comments. It helps me to keep working at this, and it confirms that it is worthwhile…whether I ever sell a painting or not. It is using the gift in us that is important. Thank you again!

I have to add a WOW too! This is an amazing painting. You really captured the tiger. Simply beautiful! And I never really thought about it… but I have to agree that art feeds the soul and actually frees my stresses as well.

Mary, bold and striking, I love the eyes. I agree velour paper is wonderful to work on and great for fur, I would love to see more.
Dori, I live in England and purchase my velour paper from the SAA (Society for all artists) they do deliver abroad, you may need to check size, price and quantity, I hope this helps.
Regards Ian.

I really love the vibrancy of the colors you used. The warms and cools really play off each other well. Beautiful!
