Horses And The Sea

The Beachcomber (bottom right) and Beauty and the Sea (top left) are examples of my “guiding” the viewer to focus on the horse by “softening” the ocean in both.
On the other hand, Exuberance (top right) and Beauty Unadorned (bottom left) are opposite of that. I was interested in making the whole painting appealing and interesting.
The artist really is able to “lead” the viewer – again – without words…

These paintings transport me back to a favorite family trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic where we rode horses on the beach over Christmas break. A great memory, although being with my wife and daughters the guides thought it would be funny to give me the horse with the “manly-man” name of “Fruitpunch.” The girls had horses with names that were cool. Guess I’m an easy target.

Keith,
First of all, let me tell you that yes, (from our few e-mails) I would guess that you ARE an easy target…but really fun and that’s very valuable.
So, did they let you race down the beach on rental horses? That’s the ultimate!
My girlfriend and I used to do that all the time on our horses and it was amazing! Only problem was that her horse was faster than mine and I got a lot of flying sand in my face.

Keith,
I know you have another post in here somewhere, where is anyone’s clue (remember we talked about how computer challenged we both are?!) and I’m sure I’ll be able to find it when I have more time BUT……..I have a painting that HAS to be finished today so I can’t just play with all of you fun people all day. I HAVE TO WORK!!!!!!!

Lesley,
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy “studying” your equine paintings! As a horse owner/lover myself, I am astounded at the great power and beauty of these magnificent animals!
Your painting, “Exuberance” reminds me of my horse when he gallops in the pasture at full speed on a chilly winter morning.
I would love to see you do some similar paintings but with snow as your background!!!
I was recently introduced to your work by my husband when he gave me your 2009 horse calendar as a gift. I was excited to look into your paintings on the Internet and find your blog.
Thanks for your beautiful work!

I love the beauty and passion in all your paintings. I can see so many horses that I have known–and the ones I have yet meet–in them…and I wonder how long humanity has realized that the touch of a horse’s soul upon a human’s is eternal.

Ohhhhh….I think as long as there have been horses and humans on this planet!

I absolutely love your work! I’ve admired your paintings for years. They remind me of photographs yet so much better because there is a richness to a painting that cannot be captured on film. I would love to be able to paint or use pastel like you do.
